This scene takes place between Legally Bound and Breach of Contract
“Why are we new suit shopping again?” Daniel looked over at his partner, Jesse, who flipped through the racks at his favorite down town department store.
“I need a new suit.” Jesse avoided his eyes as he pulled out a purple button up and held it to his chest. “I like this color.”
“You have loads of purple shirts. You’re in one now.” Daniel fingered a light blue shirt. He needed something new to impress Rafael when they had dinner. He knew his dominant wanted to discuss something big, but he couldn’t even guess what it could be about.
“I do have purple shirts, this is lavender. You are a poor excuse for a gay man if I ever met one.” Jesse handed off the shirt to the woman who’d been hovering since they walked in the door. Daniel assumed Jesse was well known for dropping a lot of money at the store.
“Then what do you call yourself?”
“Epic, that is what I call myself.” Jesse huffed, and walked away to look at ties.
“Epic my ass, nowhere does it say I have to know all that color pallet crap to be gay.” He shoved the shirt under Jesse’s nose. “What do you think about this one?”
“No it doesn’t, but I’m pretty sure it’s in the gay charter that you have to know how to dress yourself, and that is all wrong for you. Look at how the blue washes out your skin tone.”
A smile licked at the corner of his lips as Jesse grabbed the shirt out of his grasp and tossed it aside. He left the table of ties he’d been perusing and grabbed Daniel a green shirt. Before handing it over he paired it with a few geometric ties.
“Much better, now I can focus.” He picked up three ties in quick succession and handed them off to the lady. He took a step towards the tie clips in the glass case but paused and turned back on Daniel. “And so help me god if that comes anywhere near the Calvin Klein black suit you keep pairing everything with, I will disown you.”
Daniel knit his brow, it was his favorite piece in his wardrobe. “I wasn’t going to, but which would you suggest.”
“The new charcoal gray one.” Jesse pointed a finger at him. “Promise me.”
“I promise.”
Jesse turned back around and started looking at tie clips inspecting a few before he settled on one. Daniel looked back and watched, crossing his arms over his chest.
“Tell me what this is for.” He hardened his gaze when Jesse looked over his shoulder.
“I told you I need a new suit.” The lie was written on his face.
“Don’t feed me that line, I haven’t seen you like this in a long time.” It all started to click into place. “What are you not telling me? There were those days last week you came in in rumpled suits too like they weren’t perfectly wrapped from your dry cleaner in your closet…Almost like they been in a travel bag…” His mouth dropped open as he trailed off. “What have you done?”
Jesse turned around and dragged a hand over his face. “Don’t do this to me.”
“Are you cheating?”
“I’m offended you’d even think so!” The hurt was apparent in his eyes.
“Jesse.” Daniel set his jaw.
“Cill and I got in a fight it’s not a big deal.” It felt like he was leaving something out. “But the two don’t have anything to do with each other. I have a dinner to go to and I wanted to look nice.”
“A dinner with Cill or someone else?”
Jesse pushed his tongue into the side of his cheek, and he was saved by the sales lady calling him over for his fitting room.
“We aren’t done talking about this,” Daniel called after him.
“Okay…”
